DGUV V3 inspection for media technology: safety and compliance with minimal effort

Conference rooms, video walls, digital signage systems, control technology, audio and lighting technology – modern media technology comprises numerous electrical components that are in constant use. It is precisely these systems that are subject to the statutory testing requirement under DGUV Regulation 3. As a specialist in AV integration and media technology, SIGMA AV carries out the complete DGUV V3 inspection of your media technology systems, directly on site, in accordance with standards and without any extra effort for your team.

What is the DGUV V3 inspection?

The DGUV V3 inspection (formerly BGV A3) is the statutory electrical inspection of all electrical installations and equipment in companies. The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) stipulates in Regulation 3 that employers must ensure that all electrical devices, installations and machinery are regularly inspected to verify that they are in good working order. The legal basis is provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Act (ArbSchG), the Industrial Safety Regulation (BetrSichV) and DGUV Regulation 3 itself. For companies with audiovisual installations, this means that every electrical component – from network switches and projectors to Crestron control systems – must be inspected regularly.

Why is the DGUV V3 inspection particularly important for media technology?

High-quality media technology consists of numerous electrical components: servers, video walls, control systems, networks, wireless connections, audio and lighting technology. These systems are in constant use and are subject to natural wear and tear, peak loads and external influences. Faulty or defective components can lead to accidents, fires or operational failures. The DGUV V3 inspection helps to identify and prevent such risks at an early stage. At the same time, you protect your business from liability risks and comply with legal requirements. DGUV V3 inspection carried out on-site – fast, efficient and exactly where you need us.

Typical risks without regular testing:

  • Fire hazard due to faulty cables, overloaded circuits or defective power supplies
  • Operational downtime due to undetected wear and tear on critical components
  • Liability risks for management and operators in the event of personal injury
  • Loss of insurance cover if no valid test report can be provided
  • Fines and penalties for breaches of the Industrial Safety Regulation

A generic electrical inspector is often unfamiliar with the specific features of AV systems – media control systems, signal distribution, rack-based infrastructure or permanently installed projection technology require specialist knowledge

Which media technology is inspected during the DGUV V3 inspection?

At SIGMA AV, the DGUV V3 inspection covers all electrical equipment and systems within your media technology infrastructure – both fixed and portable equipment:

Fixed media technology systems:

  • Permanently installed video walls and LED walls
  • Media control systems (e.g. Crestron, Extron)
  • Racks with signal distribution and network technology
  • Built-in sound systems and audio DSPs
  • Permanently installed projectors and displays
  • Digital signage installations
  • Building-side AV cabling and patch panels

Portable media technology equipment:

  • Mobile conference systems and presentation technology
  • Portable audio and lighting equipment
  • Cables, connectors and extension leads
  • Mobile control and streaming units
  • Chargers, power supplies and accessories

How the DGUV V3 inspection with SIGMA AV works

The procedure follows a structured process designed to disrupt business operations as little as possible:

Inventory and scheduling: We record your media technology systems, draw up a list of equipment and arrange an inspection date that does not affect your operations.

Visual inspection: Our trained specialists visually inspect all equipment and systems for external damage, cable condition, plug connections and housing integrity.

Metrological testing: Using certified test equipment, we measure earth resistance, insulation resistance and leakage currents in accordance with DIN VDE 0701-0702 and DIN VDE 0105-100.

Functional testing: We verify the proper functioning of all protective devices and safety mechanisms.

Documentation and test report: You will receive a legally compliant test report for every piece of equipment and every system tested – as proof for employers’ liability insurance associations, insurance companies and authorities. Tested equipment is marked with a test sticker.

Defect rectification (optional): If defects are identified, our technicians can in many cases rectify them directly on site – or we can coordinate the repair via our workshop.
